Beyond the Scalpel
Photography
I started photography at age fifteen and have been pursuing it since. My early interests were landscapes, cityscapes and street photography. Nowadays I am mainly a wildlife photographer. I also enjoy photographing the moon against various landscapes. Another favorite subject is San Francisco, a city I love.
Music
From 2000 to 2020 I lectured about classical music on behalf of the Stockton Symphony. Each lecture was about a select work to be performed in an upcoming concert. The lectures covered genres of symphony, concerto and choral works. The presentations began with historical context and continued onto a detailed description of how to listen to and interpret the work, with frequent musical examples. I am pleased to share the wealth of information I have accumulated over this period with a wider audience.
WINE
I’ve been a wine enthusiast since the 1990s. I participate in two local wine-tasting groups, visit countless wineries locally and abroad, and nurture a personal wine collection. Needless to say, this is accompanied by a broad culinary experience. You’re welcome to explore my blogs on this subject going back to 2006.
